Luke Ski concert at GenCon Indy 2012: Get your tickets now!
Attention GENCON INDY attendees: My Saturday night 9pm concert is now a specific ticketed event! Please go buy a ticket for it to ensure you'll have a seat at my concert! ENT1232218 "the great Luke Ski: Live in Concert!" https://registration.gencon.com/events/32218The show's price is still $2, same as a Generic Ticket, which will also be accepted at the door assuming there are still seats left at showtime. However, purchasing a specific ticket for my concert in advance has another important purpose. It lets the powers that be at GenCon know that I do have a fanbase there that wants me to return every year to put on a show. So if you're planning to see my show at GenCon Indy this year, I would really really appreciate it if you'd go buy the specific $2 ticket in advance. (If you already bought a $2 Generic Ticket for the specific purpose of using it to see my show and you have no other potential use for it, let me know.) Also, don't forget about "Friday Night Live" (ENT1232317, $2) with performances by Luke Ski, Marc Gunn, Tom Smith, the Damsels of Dorkington, and more! I'm also performing at the Costume Contest on Saturday as usual, but you don't need a ticket for that. Thanks everyone, see you in Indianapolis, if not sooner. :) - Luke Ski | | Friday, May 25th, 2012 | | 1:16 pm |
Logan Award suggestions end in 1 week, and other new news! - Luke Ski Update 5/25/12
Today is the 35th Anniversary of the release of "Star Wars", so a bunch of people on the internet decided that today is Geek Pride Day. Funny, I thought that was every day on the internet. Anyway, my Kickstarter was a resounding success! Final amount raised: $6,355.79, plus a real world donation of $300 from "Mom Ski"! The donation that put us over the top of our stretch goal was from Luke Ski super-fan & Bad Rapport listener Bob Mathews (a.k.a. Number 11) of Fullerton, CA who donated an astounding $2,100! Looks like I have a lawn to mow! In fact, that's 1 lawn to mow & house concert with 100 cake balls, 9 songs to write about people for the EP CD, 11 puppets of people for the next Bad Rapport video episode, 14 super-detailed caricatures, 25 quantities of bacon with corresponding t-shirts, 47 audio bits, 79 chibis, and 92 shout-outs! Phew! I have a lot of work to do! Thank you so much to everyone who donated! I am shocked and overwhelmed by the success of this Kickstarter, and I am eternally grateful to all of you fans who have made this a reality. So thank you, thank you, thank you all so very much. :) If you still have money left over for donating to awesome things, I highly suggest you donate to Worm Quartet's Kickstarter, for which the funds will get his long awaited "Songs Of The Maniacs" album released, and get him an awesome keytar for his live stage shows. This Kickstarter ends in 20 days, so please go check it out. http://kck.st/L3RPsjAnd hey, you know what would be cool? If you all went to http://drdemento.com/request and requested "Pregnancy Is Strange" by Carrie Dahlby! Be sure to leave your email address, or else it won't count towards the tally for the May 2012 Top Ten countdown on "The Dr. Demento Show"! A show, by the way, which continues to be awesome and you should totally be listening to every week at http://drdemento.com . And now, on the the usual pluggery. Kickstarter Update: $5,500 Stretch Goal for "LukeSkiCon" weekend with "FuMP Fest" concert in Chicago My Kickstarter hit its goal of $1,750 in less than 24 hours, and I couldn't be more shocked, happy, and appreciative. So thank you so much to everyone who has already donated. My friends have encouraged me to come up with a STRETCH GOAL, so I came up with a list of more technology that would help me out creatively and practically both at home and on the road at gigs: A drawing tablet for my computer so I can make animated cartoons, a new modern video camera, a Zoom H2 recorder for podcasts and live shows, a GPS for my car, a Laptop so I can get work done on the road, an iPod so I can give the one I'm currently using back to its owner, and an iPad for showing videos at my merch table (which will also help with merch sales at Table 27 at MarsCon). Factoring in fees and the production costs of the pledge prizes, I came up with a stretch goal target of $5,500. I know this seems high, but I hit $1,750 in less than a day, so it's certainly possible to hit that goal in the next 18 days. So what is the incentive for the donors for me to hit this stretch goal? I will plan a weekend long series of fun events in the Chicago area, which I am jokingly calling “LukeSkiCon”. The central event of the weekend will be a live at least 2 hour long concert headlined by Luke Ski, and featuring other acts from the FuMP dot com and “The Dr. Demento Show”, which I will call the “FuMP Fest”. If there is decent enough internet at the location of the show, we will webcast the live concert (hopefully both audio & video) so the donors who couldn't make it can watch / listen to the show as it happens. We'll also record the show and make it available to donors who miss the live webcast. So even donating as little as $1 will get you access to the recording of the concert. So why wouldn't you? Other potential ideas for activities I've come up while brainstorming about “LukeSkiCon” are as follows: - Movie riffing - Screening rare videos & films from early in my life - A talent show for the fans to participate in - Recording things for use in future Luke Ski songs/sketches - Go to Key Lime Cove indoor water park - A visit to Galloping Ghost Arcade to play classic 80's video games - Invade a Karaoke night somewhere and dominate it - Play the 'Boob Tree'/'Eat Poop You Cat' drawing game - Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport podcast LIVE! There's so much cool, fun stuff to be done in the Chicagoland area, we'll take suggestions and figure out an itinerary full of stuff people want to do that's as affordable as possible. We can also arrange for all our out of town participants to stay at the same hotel, so it'll be even more convention-like. So to recap, if I hit my STRETCH GOAL of $5,500, I will plan a “LukeSkiCon” weekend featuring the “FuMP Fest” concert in the Chicago area for all the donors who are able to make it. For the donors that aren't able to make it, I will do a live webcast of the concert, and make the concert recording available to all the donors. So please donate if you can, and please tell your friends online about it. This Kickstarter ends at Noon on May 19th, let's see if we can make LukeSkiCon happen again! Thanks again so much to everyone who donated, and I will talk to you all again soon. :) ~ Luke Ski, 4/30/12 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/335203126/luke-skis-av-concert-rig | | Friday, April 27th, 2012 | | 12:06 pm |
Luke Ski's Kickstarter Stretch Goal: $5,500! http://kck.st/HVM4kE Hey folks! We've hit our goal, but we're not done yet! I am announcing a stretch goal to fund additional technology that will aid me in the creation of new audio & video comedy, as well as behind the scenes and at my gigs. That stretch goal is $5,500. I'll announce more details on Monday about what the big Stretch Goal incentive will be, but in a nutshell, how would you like to party all weekend in Chicago with Luke Ski & friends? If we hit $5,500, it could happen! Stay tuned, and thanks so much to all of you who have already donated! I am so psyched to start touring with the new AV rig! Luke Ski needs feedback about his Kickstarter stretch goal
Hey Luke Ski fans & friends, So, my Kickstarter reached it's goal of $1,750.00 in less than 24 hours, before I even had the chance to send off a message to my e-mailing list letting everyone know about it. Some people, like long-time friend "Blasted Bill" Putt, lamented that he was going to make a substantial donation but we had already reached our goal. This is the point in most successful Kickstarter campaigns where the artist comes up with a STRETCH GOAL, which is a new secondary goal on top of their initial goal. The artist usually comes up with some kind of a new special reward to give everybody who donates if that stretch goal is met. Sara and I sat down and made a detailed priced list of other technology that would help me creatively and/or practically, and factoring in Kickstarter & credit card fees and the cost of pledge prize production, have come up with a stretch goal amount, which I'll announce tomorrow. The part I need feedback from you all for, is figuring out what the stretch goal reward should be. Sara and I came up with a few ideas last night, and I wanted to run them by you, so you can tell me what you think of these ideas, which of them you like the best, or suggest changes / additions to them. Idea #1: Luke Ski does a free live at least 2-hour concert at his home in Chicago (or at a venue nearby). Anyone who donated who can get to the gig can come and see the show for free. Anyone who donated who can't get to the gig can watch it streaming live online. It would also be recorded (audio & video) so those who donated who can't do either can still experience the concert after it's over. If any of my FuMP colleagues want to join me for the show, we'll expand the concert to include their act on the bill. How can this idea be improved? Idea #2: Luke Ski does an at-least 24 page comic book, has it professionally printed, and everybody who donated will get an autographed copy. I'm not sure what this story should be yet. It could be something with my old “I Was A Teenage Comedian” characters. It could be autobiographical where I tell stories from my years of performing at conventions and at the caricature stand. It could be something involving the members of the FuMP as a cast of characters who have adventures. What do you think it should be? How can this idea be improved? Idea #3: Luke Ski makes a new elaborate music video. I don't know what song it would be for. I also don't know if it would be live-action, or with puppets, or as an animated cartoon. (Note: One of the new tech items on my stretch goal list is a Wacom Intuos4 Large Pen Tablet for my computer, with which I'll be able to create animated cartoons, after TV's Kyle teaches me how.) Once the video is complete, I will release it on a special edition DVD for donors only, with some special edition extras exclusive to that DVD. What song would you suggest the new music video be for? How should we decide? How can this idea be improved? Idea #4: Do you have any ideas? I intend to announce the new stretch goal sometime tomorrow, either before or during the FuMPcast. So any feedback you guys are willing and able to give me now would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for all your generosity and support, Luke Ski PS: If you can't reply here on LiveJournal, email me at thegreatlukeski@gmail.com | | Friday, April 20th, 2012 | | 3:09 pm |

One year of attempted weight loss. Today is the 1 year anniversary of when I started making an effort to lose weight via counting my calories at the daily plate and regular low-impact exercise (walking). When I started, I was 249. I was losing weight pretty consistently each week through October 28th, when I hit 211.5 (which is 37.5 pounds lost). Then I hit huge plateau where I was stuck between 213.5 and 218 for 4 months. Before I left for MarsCon, I was 219 (30 pounds lost). Then MarsCon happened and I got sick, so I pretty much threw calorie counting and exercise out the window for the past month. Which leads to today, where I weighed myself again for the first time since then, and I am at 223 (26 pounds lost). I'm trying not to get discouraged and go back to my old eating habits. Also, just before MarsCon, Sara and I had someone at our local Y set up an ActiveTrax exercise regimen for us. I've only done it a couple of times, but hopefully that along with treadmill walking, and me trying to get back into the habit of calorie counting will get me back on a path of losing weight. It would make me happy if I could get down to 200 by July. My main personal goal is to get down to 185, which is the lowest I've ever weighed as an adult. |
